Exhibition: Polyphony of Voices. Intangible cultural heritage in motion, 23.06. to 21.07. 2023
Curated by Yvonne Živković and Astrid Kury
The exhibition, which took place at the Graz Academy from June 23 to July 21, explored the question of how artists, authors and curators experience their own cultural heritage in an ongoing exchange and how they deal artistically with tradition and cultural heritage.
Historically, the idea of an immovable cultural heritage has often been misused. In contrast, the UN Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003) is characterized by a refocusing on the dynamic, mobile and dialogical nature of cultural heritage. In particular, it takes into account the realities of migration and globalization - oral traditions, handicrafts and religious rituals are just as central as notions of place of origin or (trans)-national identity.
With contributions by Anastasiia Khlestova (UA/AT), Yevheniia Laptii (UA/AT), Małgorzata Markiewicz (PL), Barbi Marković (RS/AT), Ryts Monet (IT/AT), Fiston Mwanza Mujila (CG/AT), Ivana Sajko (HR/DE), and Anna Schwinger (AT)
Workshop Cultural heritage between East and West
University of Zagreb, Faculty of Philosophy, Department of German Studies, 15.05. 2023
Organized by Yvonne Živković and Milka Car
With a reading by Olja Alvir (Vienna) and a lecture by Renate Hansen-Kokoruš (Graz)
The workshop 'Migration and Cultural Heritage between East and West' invited students and teachers from the Universities of Zagreb and Graz to jointly examine concepts of cultural heritage in German-language cultural production in the 20th and 21st centuries, especially migration literature from Southeast Europe. The focus was on interdisciplinary and transcultural practices through which hybrid concepts of identity are consolidated, such as transnational exchange processes in the publication sector and aspects of multilingualism. After an academic lecture by Prof. em. Renate Hansen-Kokoruš on the topic of "Generations between East and West: Ljuba Arnautovićand Marko Dinić" and a trilingual reading by Viennese author Olja Alvir, who presented her poetry collection Spielfeld (2022), participants were invited to take part in participatory exercises on the topic of intangible cultural heritage and identity, the results of which were then discussed in the group. The event was initiated by the Austrian Library and supported by the Austrian Cultural Forum Zagreb.
